The Department of Chemical Engineering Welcomes ChE Freshmen

The BU Chemical Engineering Department welcomes its 78 freshmen students admitted this school year. It is the first  time that two blocks of students have been selected and admitted to the BSChE program of the Department. The total student population of the Department is now 166, in which 47% are freshmen.  
​
Among the freshmen, 40% are qualified (45.7% of all the qualified students), 32% are waitlisted (56.82% of all the waitlisted students), 20% are qualified but below quota (QBQ) to BSChE, the remainder are either qualified or QBQ to other courses. Majority are females (65%), and fifty-nine percent (59%) are from Albay, 19% are from Sorsogon, 14% are from Camarines Sur, 4% are from Camarines Norte, and the remainder are from Masbate and other places.

Academically, majority of the Senior High School strand is STEM (82%), followed by ABM (6.4%), GAS (5.1%), HUMSS (3.8%) and TVL and International School (1.3%). Majority are from National High Schools (42.3%), followed by Science High Schools (21.8%), University High Schools (20.5%), Private High Schools (14.1%). It is noteworthy that a student came from an International School in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Forty-four percent (44%) are scholars, in which majority are DOST-SEI scholars (accounting to 91% of scholars). There is also a scholar in each of the OWWA, APRI, and CHED scholarships.

The faculty members and staff, and the students of the Department warmly congratulate the freshmen for successfully gaining admission to the program. Kudos to our first years!
