BUChE QUIZZERS' GUILD

​

The Bicol University Chemical Engineering Department maintains a standing pool of Quizzers known as the BUChE Quizzers' Guild. The selection process of the Guild is a rigorous step-by-step procedure, in which one can be chosen by nomination. They represents Bicol University and the Department in Quiz Bowls for Chemical Engineering Students.

 

Below are current members of the Guild,  the selection process of Quizzers, the Benifits of being a Quizzer, and the important dates to remember.

SELECTION PROCESS

​

1. The Coach and the members of the Guild can nominate anyone whom they think is worthy of being a Quizzer. They should fill up the Nomination form and submit to Head Coach. (Download Nomination Form here).

2. The Head Coach then submit to concerned faculty members handling professional subjects for confirmation. The faculty concerned should sign the nomination form.

3. The Head Coach then organize the Guild Selection Exam (GSE). It consists of two parts: the Written Qualification Test (WQT) and the Oral Qualification Test (OQT). You can only take the GSE twice.

4. Wait for the results of the GSE. If the Nominee fails to qualify, only the Head Coach can bypass the GSE Results if the Nominee's performance is exemplary in the OQT. 

5. Those who qualify will be interviewed then deliberated by the Guild. Quizzers selected by the Guild will be endorsed to the Department for approval. Endorsement requires unanimous votes.

6. The Department Chair will schedule a meeting for deliberation of the list submitted by the Guild. Each specific Quizzer must be voted separately, and to be confirmed as a a Quizzer, he/she must be voted favorable unanimously.

7. The Head Coach will release the Certificate of Membership and a Letter of Acceptance to the accepted Quizzers.

BENEFITS OF QUIZZERS

 

1. As approved by all the Faculty Members in a Departmental Meeting and by Department Memorandum No. 2019-07-004 dated July 17, 2019, all Quizzers shall have a Grade Reduction Benefit (GRB) in all subjects in the Department, as follows:

   • All standing Quizzers shall have a 0.1 GRB, provided that his/her standing is passing;

   • Quizzers that joined a contest and win a title other than Championship or First Place, shall have a 0.2 GRB;

   • Quizzers who bagged the Championship or First Place of Quiz Bowl, shall have a 0.3 GRB;​

2. An Induction Ceremony will be held to honor the the newly selected Quizzers of the Department;

3. A small allowance will be provided, c/o PIChE-JCV to cover incidental costs incurred during review sessions.

• October 31, 2020 - Guild Selection Exam and Interview (online)

• November 15, 2020 - Release of Certificate of Membership and Letter of Acceptance

• November 2020 - Inter-University Quiz Show of the UP-KEM, Inc. (UP Diliman, Quezon City, maybe online)

• November 2020 - 5th Tri-Sci-Math Wizard Tournament (Collegiate and Senior High School Level, online) (The Guild is the organizing arm of the PIChE-JCV for the Quiz Bowl)

• February 2021 - 2021 PIChE National Quiz Bowl (maybe online)
