The Department implements the  ChE Crash Course in Engineering Mathematics for Incoming First Years

The BU Chemical Engineering Department, in cooperation with the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineer - Junior Chapter V (PIChE-JCV), implements the ChE Crash Course in Engineering Mathematics for incoming freshmen and some selected shifters and transferees. The Crash Course aims to augment the mathematical background of the incoming freshmen, particularly those coming from non-STEM Strand in Senior High School. It has its focus on the mathematical applications in engineering that are not anymore covered in the present curriculum. The Course was held last July 24-August 2, 2019 (8 days). Topics include Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, Solid Mesuration and Analytic Geometry. Lecturers are the Chairman of the Department, Engr. Junel B. Borbo and Engr. Lorenz E. Borromeo, a Batch 2017 BUChE alumnus who graduated cum laude

There are 107 attendees to the course, composing of 105 first years (98.13% of all first years) and one (1) transferee and one (1) shifter. Diagnostic examination results shows that an average of only 21.7%  percentage score, the highest being only 47%, thus strengthening the need for the Course. 
​
Post-Course Exam examination shows an average percentage scores of 32.2% in Algebra,  23.5% in Trigonometry, 40.3% in Solid Mensuration, and 36.8% in Analytic Geometry. The average percentage scores for the exam is 33.5%, thus the course has moderate implications (54.38% increase in Class Average). Individual scores show an average of 77.8% increase.

Attendees are ranked based on their results in the Diagnostic Exam (30%) and the Post-Course Exam (70%). They are awarded with certificates and a medal, with a chance to be nominated to the BUChE Quizzers' Guild. Mr. Je Sian Keith Ll. Herman tops the Course, with a rating of 76.1%, followed by Mr. Rhazier Aeron C. Galicia (57.1%) and and Ms. Alliza Kaye C. Casulla (51.2%). An award also is given to  Ms. Rona Molica O. Clariño and Mr. Justin G. Basco as the most improved completers.
